Entering a Hampton Inn
I entered the Hampton Inn in Redding, California and was immediately annoyed by ever-present slogans like "Smile" and "Happy" plastered everywhere on the walls and in the elevators. Having a positive attitude and outlook is fine, but this is so damn condescending, especially from a hotel. What? Am I supposed to enter the elevator after a hard day and think, "Gee, I need to smile. It's not so bad after all." So annoying, like being greeted by a robot who says all the right things but lacks genuine emotion or concern. Next they'll be giving out headphones that will pump "positive thinking" slogans in your head all day. I'm sure their market research somewhere shows that people want to be treated like morons.
